In December 2022, our group ventured into the breathtaking landscapes of Kerala, South India. We discovered the serene beauty nestled within the Western Ghats. The Enchanting Park’s Attractions

As we journeyed from Munnar to Eravikulam, nature unveiled its wonders in a breathtaking display. Fountains cascaded down the mountains, creating a thrilling backdrop with the soothing sound of cascading water. Lush tea plantations, rolling hills, playful clouds in the sky, waterfalls, and cool breezes combined to fill our hearts with joy.

The main entrance of the park marked the beginning of a roughly 1-kilometre climb to the highest accessible point for travellers. Along the way, numerous viewpoints and photo spots enticed us, offering panoramic vistas of the surrounding beauty. Upon reaching the summit, ample seating allowed us to lose ourselves in the enchantment of the landscape.

From this vantage point, perennial streams crisscrossed the area, a source of unending delight. The landscape painted a tapestry of green hills, rocky formations, and verdant tea plantations. The ever-changing clouds danced like wisps of cotton on the mountains, an enchanting sight. Sitting on a bench enveloped in greenery, the cool breeze sent shivers down our spines, and we felt as though we were above the clouds themselves.

Eravikulam National Park boasts a rich variety of plant species and unique wildlife. The Neelkurinji Plant, blooming every 12 years, calls this park home. In 2030, when the Neelkurinji blooms again, the hills will transform into a canvas painted by nature, attracting travellers from across India and the world to witness this phenomenon. The park is also home to the Nilgiri Tahr, a captivating creature that appears to be a blend of deer and sheep, leaving us with an unforgettable experience.

A Closer Look at Eravikulam National Park

Eravikulam National Park graces the Anamudi peak in the Western Ghats, spanning the Idukki and Ernakulam Districts of Kerala. Anamudi Peak, standing at 2,695 meters, is South India’s highest peak. Established in 1978, the park covers 97 square kilometres and is divided into three zones: core, buffer, and tourism. Munnar, located about 15 kilometres away, serves as the nearest town to Eravikulam National Park.

Interesting Facts About Nilgiri Tahr

The Nilgiri Tahr, the state animal of Tamil Nadu, finds its largest population in Eravikulam National Park. Formerly known as Hemitragus Hylocrius, this fascinating creature mates during the monsoon, with females giving birth in January-February.
