Swiftly arranging for a hired car to ferry us through the lush landscapes, our adventure took an unexpected turn as we stumbled upon the Sorada Reservoir. Nestled in Odisha’s Ganjam district, approximately 75 kilometres from the Brahmapur Railway Station, this reservoir welcomed us with serene tranquillity. Surrounded by verdant hills, the reservoir unveiled its crystal-clear waters, an awe-inspiring sight. A vantage point atop a nearby hill promised panoramic vistas, enticing us on a brief uphill trek. The effort paid off as we were treated to breathtaking views—gazing upon the reservoir’s still waters, mirroring the encompassing mountains, we were spellbound by the tranquillity it exuded.


Exploring Spiritual Reverence at Ghunteswari Temple
A stone’s throw away from the Sorada Reservoir, a designated car parking area greeted travelers, signaling our proximity to the Ghunteswari Temple, a sanctum of immense spiritual importance. Within the temple’s sacred precincts, deities Lakshmi, Durga, and Kali received reverence in unison. The temple’s serene ambiance offered glimpses of the Rushikulya River snaking through the distant landscape, adding an ethereal touch to the spiritual atmosphere.

As we made our way back from Daringbadi toward Brahmapur Railway Station, the allure of nearby attractions like Jirang Monastery, Khasada Waterfall, Taptapani, and Gopalpur Sea Beach beckoned our curiosity.

A serene oasis situated 112 kilometers from Daringbadi, Khasada Waterfall stands as a picturesque marvel surrounded by lush greenery. Its splendor is most pronounced during the monsoon season, when vibrant foliage enhances its natural beauty. Ideal for a family outing or a solitary retreat into nature’s embrace.
Jirang Buddhist Monastery
Close to the Khasada Waterfall lies the scenic Jirang Monastery, often recognized as the ‘Little Tibet of Odisha’. Nestled in the village of Chandragiri in the Gajapati district, it serves as a sanctuary for Tibetans. Named Padmasambhava Mahavihara and inaugurated by the Dalai Lama in 2010, the monastery complex comprises prayer halls and meditation spaces enveloped in serene surroundings.

Venturing about 50 kilometres from Brahmapur city, Taptapani, named after its “hot water” springs, holds a reputation for its therapeutic waters. Our evening was spent enjoying the tranquil beauty of Gopalpur Sea Beach before we concluded our journey, boarding the Coromandel Express, Train no. 12842 DN, for our return to Howrah.
